He has performed as both soloist and conductor at venues such as the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Royal Festival Hall, and Barbican Centre in London, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Palau de la Música in Barcelona, and the Auckland Festival (New Zealand).
Luigi De Filippi has recorded several CDs as soloist, chamber musician, and conductor, including: Giuseppe Tartini’s sonatas for solo violin; Georg Philipp Telemann’s Fantasias for solo violin; the complete piano trios of Clara and Robert Schumann; trios by Théodore Gouvy, Schubert, Mendelssohn, and Johann Nepomuk Hummel; the Baroque opera La Diana Schernita by Giacinto Cornachioli; previously unreleased music by Ruggero Leoncavallo and Francesco Saverio Mercadante; and 19th-century Fantasias based on operas by Giuseppe Verdi. He is the music director of OperaExtravaganza, a lively cultural association based in the Tuscia area of Viterbo, whose mission is to bring classical music and opera to unconventional venues; in 2015, the association launched the Adopt a Theatre project, aimed at showcasing small, historic Italian theatres. In 2021, OE produced an Opéra comique titled Il Segreto della Gioconda, with a libretto by Monica Sanfilippo and music by Luigi De Filippi. The same authors also wrote a Pasticcio titled La Locanda dell’Opera (staged in 2022), a Melologue titled Otone, il destino di un Imperatore (staged in 2023), the intermezzo Conosci te stesso (?)
